Sandown lies at the heart of 'The Bay' and is renowned for its beautiful beach and safe bathing. The sandy beach stretches over 5 miles, and has held its blue flag status since 2021. The award-winning beach provides a welcoming expanse of sand ideal for family holidays, sand castle builidng and escapes to the sea.
Sandown beach is located on the south east coast of the Isle of Wight, the seaside towns of Sandown and Shanklin are located within the bay.
Parking is available on the esplanade and to the west of the Sandown Pier, all parking facilities are pay and display. It is approximately a 10 minute walk from Sandown train station to Sandown Beach. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 1st May - 30th September.
The pier provides amusements, bowling and crazy golf, whilst further down the beach there are are trampolines and a beach shop and shoreside cafe. Sandown is a Victorian seaside town, with Culver Down a chalk down nearby, and the Sandown Levels, freshwater wetlands and Alverstone Mead local nature reserve nearby.
Other local beaches include Yaverland beach, Bembridge beach and Small Hope beach.
