About

Each winter, Marlow's fabulous Christmas lights attract thousands of people to the town centre, to stroll along the High Street from the obelisk at the top to the iconic Marlow Bridge at the bottom, admiring the fairy-tale display. Multiple rows of twinkling Christmas lights hang across the central streets, while mini-Christmas trees adorn the buildings above the shop fronts and garlands of lights shine from the trees.

The entire town comes alive on the third Thursday of November, when the lights are switched on by a well-known guest — past celebrities include Mary Berry, Chris Evans and Peter Jones — who climbs to the top of a double-decker bus and flicks the switch. The crowds are amused by strolling entertainers and every year it snows! — thanks to the efforts of a snow machine.

More information will be available nearer the time as to who will be switching on Marlow's festive lights this year!  Watch this space.

Other Marlow Christmas Festive Events

Santa's Fun Run. 1 December 2024. Each year the sight of hundreds of Santas running and walking 5km (3 miles) around the streets of Marlow has provided the town with a glorious spectacle which kicks off the festive season.

Not long after the celebrity Switch On, there's a Late Night Shopping event , 5 December 2024, in the town, when retailers keep their doors open late for Christmas shoppers, many of them offering mince pies and mulled wine to customers.

And even closer to Christmas, Carols on the Causeway attracts large numbers of residents to sing carols around the town's tall Christmas tree.

Marlow gets truly magical at Christmas!
