More Anniversaries

2025 see's a host of big anniversaries across the destination, and these bring a wealth of new events and experiences for visitors to enjoy. Its the 950th anniversary of Chichester Cathedral, whilst the fascinating Royal Observatory, part of the Royal Museums Greenwich, turns 350. Both Hampshire & Reading will be celebrating the 250th birthday of Jane Austen. If you haven't visited Jane Austen's House this is definitely the year to do it, located in Chawton, East Hampshire, she wrote and published all six of her globally beloved novels here. 2025 also sees the 250th birthday of JW Turner, look out for an array of events showcasing his work across the region with a focus on Margate and the Turner Contemporary. May brings to 80th anniversary of VE Day which saw the end of World War II in Europe and World War II as a whole. July see's the 70th birthday of the Steamship Shieldhall, Southampton, with a special sailings, now available to book. 2025 also marks 25 years since the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst opened it doors, home to over 2.4 billion seeds.

With 400 miles of stunning coastline, there are plenty of coastal towns and cities providing a great backdrop to an escape by the sea. Walk along the stunning white cliffs, skim stones along the shore, enjoy the breathtaking panorama, and mesmerising sunsets as flocks of starlings dance in the sky - murmurations, (November - March), the South Coast is sure to delight. You may not know but southern England is full of sandy beaches, from the beautiful East coastline of the Isle of Wight to the sweeping bays on the Isle of Thanet, the dunes of Camber Sands and West Witterings, to the glorious beaches of Dorset, the gateway between the South East and the South West.
