Ventnor Botanic Garden

About

Ventnor Botanic Garden lies at the heart of a remarkable microclimate on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. Protected by the chalk downs of the Ventnor Undercliff, VBG boasts an impressive collection of rare, subtropical and exotic plants. Normally found in protected glasshouses, that plants at VBG thrive in geographical plantings based on the Mediterranean zones of the world. Begin your day with a meander through the Med garden, then go down under in the Australian and New Zealand Gardens. In the afternoon, chill out with the cacti and agave in the Arid Garden and then find some sun in the South African Terraces.

All ages and generations of the family can spend quality time together exploring or relaxing in the beauty and tranquility of the Garden. With Guided Tours, led by VBG Volunteers departing daily (call ahead to check availability) a complimentary Children’s Trail worksheet and an outdoor playground, everyone can enjoy healthy, natural play in a safe environment. For the young and adventurous at heart, VBG has a lot more to offer and can be explored on foot, bicycle or scooter. Visit the Tropical House and be transported to the rainforest, take a walk along the secret tunnel to the sea or step off of the pathways to discover secret places and see the rare and exotic plants at their best.

Stop off at The Plantation Room Café or edulis restaurant to relax and refuel. Enjoy super fresh cuisine, from light snacks, lunches and afternoon tea, made from locally sourced produce and VBG homegrown fruit, vegetables and micro herbs.

Don’t forget to visit the Gift Shop to pick up a souvenir of the day or visit the Gallery to see art and exhibitions from local artists.

Events and activities take place at VBG throughout the year, check website for details or join our mailing list, www.botanic.co.uk

Ventnor Botanic Garden is under the management of a Community Interest Company and your admission fees enable the non-profit organisation to keep the garden open and develop it further.
