The small, tranquil beach at Reculver is the perfect place to relax and admire the stunning Kent coastline.
Once used as a testing site for the World War II bouncing bomb this shingle beach is now a haven for those looking for a peaceful hideaway in the rural setting of the Reculver Country Park. In the park there is a fascinating visitor centre highlighting the great archeological, historical, and conservation value of the area. Key features of this beach are its imposing 12th century towers and Roman fort. This is a magnificent spot for a picnic with its secluded grassy area and stunning views out to sea.
The 12th century Reculver towers of the ruined church stand amid the remains of an important Roman 'Saxon Shore' fort and a Saxon monastery. They are an imposing landmark and Scheduled Ancient Monument that can be seen across the coastline from Herne Bay to Birchington in Kent.
The beach is located close to the main resort of Herne Bay which has easy access from the A299/M2 coast route. The A291 provide a direct route to Canterbury. Herne Bay is served by a mainline Railway Station from London. There is also a bus service to all local towns with a circular route to Canterbury. The area of country park joins the Eastern end of Herne Bay and is a popular walking route over Reculver Cliffs.
