The Old Queens Head

About

Affectionately refurbished inside, this has resulted in loads of character and a charming informal atmosphere: warm rich colours, flagstone floors, original exposed timbers, a polished-wood bar, rugs and classic fabrics all add to the charm. The gorgeous dining room, which was originally a barn, dates from 1666 giving rise to lots of cosy corners, real fires and changes in floor level. Caringly sourced from local auctions, the old oak furniture and pictures on the wall are in keeping with the age of the pub. There is a great buzz in the bar, where you can expect lots of laughs, great service and plenty of good old-fashioned hospitality.

Dining here is true to its traditional pub values. The food balances classic dishes with modern British flair, which results in an innovative seasonal menu and chalkboard specials where every dish is built around the best fresh produce available. For milder weather there’s a sunny terrace overlooking the village church, which is bordered by a garden with plenty of room to spread out on a family day out. There are great walks nearby in Common and Penn Woods, both of which are ancient beech woodlands that have changed very little over the centuries.
