Lined with colourful beach huts Avon Beach is located a 25 minutes drive from Bournemouth. It marks the start of Christchurch Bay, and is surrounded by a unique cliff habitats which are Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Avon beach is a great place to visit whatever the time of the year, with its chargable car park open all year round and its location in the coastal town of Mudeford, just east of Mudeford Quay, there are plenty of coffee shops and town services close by.
Look out for the Needles Lighthouse and views across the Isle of Wight and enjoy the 1/4 mile of sand and shingle beach. This beautiful beach makes an ideal choice for a family day out, with its gentle sloping entry into the sea, lifeguards during the summer months and sand bars to play on.
Avon beach is also a great location for learning to surf, windsurf or kitesurf.
Other beaches close by include Friars Cliff (4 minutes walk away), Mudeford Quay (13 minutes walk away) and Steamers Point (7 minutes walk away)
Dogs are not allowed on the beach from May - September but are allowed on a lead on the promenade.
You can walk from Hurst Castle, Milford-on-Sea to Avon beach, Christchurch, a distance of around 9 miles, it starts as peddle and shingle and then changes into the soft sand as you get closer to the beach.
