Discover 40-miles of walking trails that criss-cross the mid-Sussex countryside with 14 newly waymarked walking trails.

The walks are divided into seven sections throughout the district of mid Sussex. There are seven circular walks which are ideal for visitors who are travelling to explore the area. Called 'About the Place' it aims to encourages visitors and residents to get out and about, to discover the joy of walking and explore somewhere new.

Each of the trails follow a clockwise direction and passes through the picturesque towns and villages across Mid Sussex.

The walks are identified by carved oak Waymarkers. 

Walks in Balcombe and East Grinstead, all start from a railway station. Other walking routes are accessible by bus. There are car parking places at the start and end points of most walks.

The seven About the Place circular walks are outlined below. If you are living or staying in the area, seven other walks (visit website link) are also available which start and finish in different places. 

Lindfield Circular (Moderate) - 9 miles / 14.5km - starting and finishing Lindfield High Street (car parking at The Wilderness Car Park)

Ansty Circular (Moderate) - 7 miles / 11.3km - starting and finishing at Ansty Recreation Ground (car park)

Handcross Circular (Moderate) - 5 miles / 8km - starting and finishing at Handcross Recreation Ground (car park)

Balcombe Circular (Moderate/Difficult) - 7.5 miles / 12km - starting and finishing at Balcombe Railway Station (car park - chargeable) 

Worth Circular (Easy) - 6 miles / 10km - starting and finishing at Burleigh Way Car Park, Crawley Down

East Grinstead Circular (Moderate) - 6.5 miles / 10.5km - starting and finishing at East Grinstead Railway Station 

West Hoathly Circular (Difficult) - 6.5 miles / 10.5km - starting and finishing at Finche Field Recreation Ground (car park)

Each walking trail has been given a grading easy, moderate or difficult

The routes may be uneven and muddy in places so you should wear sensible walking shoes, a waterproof, hat and sunscreen (depending on the weather), take a map, compass and a mobile phone although you may not get full coverage on all of the walks.
