The picturesque town of Romsey in Hampshire sits beside the lovely River Test, one of the finest trout and salmon rivers in Europe.
It is home to a multitude of small independent retailers and its winding streets add to Romsey’s charm. The new Romsey Heritage and Visitor Centre, which combines the King John’s House and Tudor Cottage with a former Victorian gun shop, makes for an enjoyable visit. The 13th Century King John's House was once the centre of a medieval complex and visitors can see features such as the roof timbers, graffiti cut into the medieval plaster and a rare bone floor.
Romsey’s magnificent Norman Abbey, dating back to 907AD, dominates the town and plays host to an exciting programme of choral music and concerts throughout the year while the War Memorial Park offers tranquillity and relaxation.
Romsey is located on the beautiful Test Way walking and cycling trail and is an excellent base for touring the pretty villages of the Test Valley and nearby attractions such as Broadlands (currently undergoing renovation), the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Mottisfont Abbey, home to the National Rose Collection. Romsey is also home to The Rapids, a lively indoor leisure park with pools, water slides and a gym, and to the Plaza Theatre.
