Creatively inspired by its rich heritage and South Downs setting, West Dean Gardens is brimming with features to enjoy. The gardens include a Walled Kitchen Garden and 13 working Victorian glasshouses, extensive and richly planted grounds including a stunning 300 foot Edwardian Pergola, and the fifty acre St Roche’s arboretum accessed by the beautiful two mile parkland walk.
A visit to the Gardens is the perfect opportunity to escape to the great outdoors for a few hours, enjoy nature and be inspired by the colour and form of all that the gardens offer. West Dean Gardens is now open throughout the year – offering new access to the changing colours and shape of the gardens in deep winter as well as their transition through the seasons.
You will have worked up an appetite strolling through the grounds, so make sure to pop into the Gardens restaurant to enjoy freshly prepared lunches and afternoon teas.
Be inspired by the colourful and thriving displays and treat yourself to a plant or locally made gift in the Gardens shop.
For our annual programme of gardening courses here.
Dogs on short leads are welcome at West Dean Gardens.
Please check the Gardens website for the latest news on opening times and admissions.
If you are travelling by bus, from either Chichester or Midhurst direction, please note the number 60 bus stops very close to the West Dean Gardens entrance. However the stop is not marked on the stagecoach timetable or on their website. Therefore, if travelling from Midhurst it is the stop just after the West Dean Gardens entrance, and if travelling from Chichester it is the stop after The Dean Inn, in West Dean village. Visitors may enter the Gardens via the nearby pedestrian gate. Direct train services to Chichester are available from London Victoria. Connecting buses (Stagecoach number 60) are available from the bus station (adjacent to the train station), alternatively a taxi rank is situated outside the station. It is a 10-15 minute journey to West Dean Gardens.
