Brighton Undercliff Walk
Brighton and Hove
Brighton and Hove
The Undercliff Walk at Brighton is perfect for all the family as it offers not only a host of stops along the way, but its flat wide walkways make it suitable for prams, bikes and wheelchairs. The 3-mile uninterrupted walkway runs between Brighton Marina to Saltdean.
Ideal at anytime of the year, but during the winter months, watch out for the waves crashing over the sea wall at high tides or during stormy weather, and falls of chalk and flint can occur from erosion.
A large part of the walkway it is on the sea wall under the cliffs (hence the name). The 3-miles can take about an hour unless you get distracted by the picturesque village of Rottingdean or the cafes along the route. You don't have to walk both ways, pick up the coastal bus service from Saltdean to return you to Brighton city centre.
To access the route at Brighton Marina, head to the east end of Maderia Drive or Asda car park to find a ramp to access the walkway.
You'll find public toilets, resturants and cafes in Brighton Marina and on the Undercliff at Ovingdean Gap, Rottingdean and Saltdean.
Five things to look out for along the Undercliff Walk at Brighton:-
1.Look out for the boats in the harbour at Brighton Marina.
2.The Rock pools and some sand at low tide
3.The stunning views over the sea, of the towering white cliffs and the views to the horizon.
4. Explore the charming village of Rottingdean (on the route) with its charming duck pond and Kipling's gardens (free to visit)
5. If time enjoy a swim at Saltdean Lido at the end of the walk - this art deco outdoor swimming pool is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike (check opening times).
Buses 27, 14 and 12 bring you straight to the centre of Brighton, or try the walk the other way round and take a bus to Saltdean and exit at Longride Avenue. Here you can pick up the path that leads to the beach and onto the Undercliff walk.
* Open Year Round, take care at high tide or during stormy weather
