Explore Industry Work at Amberley Museum

About

Located in the heart of the South Downs national park, Amberley Museum is dedicated to preserving the industrial heritage of the South East.  With 36 acres to explore and over 40 exhibits to visit, you can discover the South’s working past.

Exhibits include a working print shop, which is the only one of its kind in the South of England.  The BT Connected Earth exhibit shows the history of communications, with interactive displays for all ages to enjoy.  The lime kilns are scheduled ancient monuments, which date back to when the site was once a working chalk quarry, and the Life of Lime exhibition shows the history of the chalk quarry and its importance in Sussex’s industrial working past.  The Museum is also home to traditional crafts people such as the blacksmith.  There is also a pottery on site, where their resident potters will showcase their skills on selected days.

They have their own narrow gauge railway, which you can ride and explore around the site, with many different locos from steam, electric and diesel.   Also they have a historic bus service which takes you on a ride within our 36 acre site.
Open from January to December, Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday’s.  Open from 10am – 4.30pm, the last entry to the museum is at 3.30pm.

Located right next to Amberley railway station, with direct trains from London Victoria, Bognor Regis and Portsmouth (check nationalrail.co.uk) with a large, free carpark.
