About

Basking in more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the UK, Selsey is a haven for beach lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. This charming seaside town, nestled on the southern tip of the Manhood Peninsula in West Sussex, offers a delightful escape for those seeking fresh sea air, stunning coastal scenery, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Selsey's unique location adds to its charm. It's almost an island, surrounded on three sides by the sea. Bracklesham Bay unfolds to the west, while the picturesque Pagham Harbour, a haven for birdlife, lies to the east. Selsey Bill marks the southernmost tip, while the Owers and Mixon Rocks, significant underwater formations, lie just off the coast. One single road leads in and out of town, transforming into a bridge at the "ferry" point, a reminder of bygone days when a ferryman ferried passengers across the water inlet at Pagham Harbour.

Sun, Sand, and Sea: Selsey boasts miles of pristine beaches, including Selsey Bill, a dramatic headland jutting out into the Sussex Bay. The shoreline is a haven for wildlife; keep your eyes peeled for playful seals basking in the sun or gliding through the clear waters. This abundance of marine life also makes Selsey a top UK diving destination, where divers can explore the captivating underwater world around the Owers and Mixon rock formations, you can also look out for the beautiful Harbour Seals, native to the area.

A Rich Fishing Heritage: Selsey's fishing heritage remains a vibrant part of its identity. Take a stroll along the East Beach and witness the bustling fishing fleet returning with their daily catch. Sample the town's famed Selsey Crab lauded worldwide, or savour fresh seafood the Fishermens Huts along East Beach.

A Paradise for Nature Lovers: Venture beyond the beach and explore the RSPB reserves of Pagham Harbour and RSPB Medmerry, designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). These havens teem with diverse birdlife and offer exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. Hike or cycle along Route 88 (Bill Way) starting at Chichester winding through the picturesque, rugged landscapes, or simply relax on the beach and admire the breathtaking sunsets that have captivated astronomers, including the late Sir Patrick Moore, a former resident of Selsey.

Unwind and Reconnect: Selsey is the perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a wildlife or marine life enthusiast, a historian, a photographer, or simply a seafood aficionado, Selsey has something to offer everyone. Explore the town's laid-back charm, soak up the sun on the beach, or dive into the crystal-clear waters.
