About

Medway is a vibrant, thriving destination offering enriching experiences with many stories to tell. It takes its name from the magnificent river that flows through it and comprises of the five towns of Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham and Strood.

The area featured in the works of Charles Dickens, who lived here as a child and returned as an established authour. Many of the buildings that can be found in Rochester carry plaques, giving details of how Dickens incorporated the site into his novels.

Whether you are interested in exploring the places Charles Dickens loved and wrote about, visiting heritage and family attractions, or attending one of our fabulous festivals - you will find an area packed with excitement, variety and unique experiences.

From the M2/A2 and M20 follow the signs for Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham.

Public Transport Directions

Medway has five main rail stations: Strood, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Rainham. All have frequent services from London Victoria and Charing Cross with High Speed trains now operating into St. Pancras.
