Gosport’s top museums are back open!
24th September 2020
The Royal Navy Submarine Museum and Explosion! Museum of Royal Naval Firepower are open and ready to welcome visitor back.
After a deep clean and new safety measures, both museums are ship shape and ready for some socially distanced fun. It is time to rediscover the amazing experiences on your doorstep.
Welcome Back
The museum teams cannot wait to welcome you back and have gone the extra mile to do everything within their power to make you feel comfortable.
You will see a few differences around the museums when you visit. These include one way routes, two metre markers on the floor, hand sanitising stations and a few restrictions on the interactive activities.
The changes follow Government guidelines and easy to follow guidance is clearly signposted around the museums.
Throughout the day the museum teams are doing additional cleaning, working hard to make your visit a safe and enjoyable one.
The number of people allowed onboard HMS Alliance, the cold war era submarine at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, is being regulated for your safety. But, that probably means you will get some one on one time with the submarine, perfect for those crowd free Instagram shots.
Every trip needs a piece of cake or an ice cream, right? You will be pleased to know the snack bars and cafes are open, with appropriate COVID-19 measures in place, for refreshments during your visit.
Thanks to these measures both museums in Gosport and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard have qualified for the Visit England Tourism Board ‘We’re Good To Go’ green tick mark. It means the museums have met the strict Government COVID-19 measures put in place for businesses, and that they are ready for your return.
When you visit please remember to bring and wear your face masks in all internal areas.
Changes to tickets
Changes to the museums are not the only changes this summer. There has also been a change to how you book tickets.
Tickets now must be pre-booked before you arrive whether you are a first time or returning visitor.
If you are buying a ticket for the first time, you will be asked to book a time and date when you buy your ticket. Return visitors can use their ticket number to log in and book a time slot.
The pre-booking ticket service has been introduced to help manage visitor numbers while we are working to reduced capacity.
This doesn’t limit the time you can spend at the museums but, it does help keep your visit safe and socially distanced.
Head to www.historicdockyard.co.uk/plan-your-visit/ to find out more and book a ticket.
This page will guide you through the process whether you are buying a new ticket or are an existing ticket holder. Once you have your ticket and time slot you are all set and ready for an exciting day out.
