Recognised since the Norman Conquest in 1066 as the birthplace of modern England, 1066 Country, Sussex has other strings to its bow. One of these is its fabulous festival and events scene. From July to October, we have some amazing performances for you to enjoy.

Battle Festival & Bexhill 70s |
Now in its eleventh year, Battle Festival, 4 – 28 July 2024, has blossomed.
This year’s varied programme includes: Battle Festival Jazz Day; ‘Wolf Hall Live,’ live music from the acclaimed BBC series, with readings by Anton Lesser; Battle Scarecrow Competition; ‘The Blue Zones - tips on how to live until 100 and beyond’!

On July 20th, don your hotpants or bell-bottoms and disco dance your way back to the 1970s. Bexhill 70s Explosion promises non-stop 70s live hits, scores of classic 70s cars, disco dance workshops, a mass ‘Timewarp’ event and much more! The fun lasts from 10.00 – 17.00 and is free for all to enjoy.

2024 Rye International Jazz & Blues Festival takes place in the beautiful medieval town of Rye, East Sussex from Friday 23 to Monday 26 August.
Established as one of the best high - quality boutique music festivals of its kind in the UK, the festival celebrates its twelfth year with an eclectic programme of intimate world – class headline concerts, outdoor stage performances and free music at fringe venues. Headline artistes include American Blues guitarist Eric Bibb, Tunde from Lighthouse Family, British award – winning soul singer Mica Millar and UK Soul singer Omar.

September is one of the best times to take a tour and tasting trip at one of our many vineyards. Why not combine this with one, or both, of these special festivals in Rye?
The 53rd annual Rye Arts Festival, a favourite on the annual calendar, returns this September (13 – 29).
Expect a programme of around 60 events, packed with international stars and household names.
Music from classical to folk; author talks; guided walks; drama and film; free events for families. The line-up includes ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris talking about the songs The Beatles gave away, novelist Robert Harris, and The Piatti Quartet who return for their 10th anniversary year. Tickets on sale from beginning of August.
Running alongside the Rye Arts Festival, and brand new for 2024, is Rye Harvest Wine and Food Fair, 14 – 15 September. It celebrates the best of local produce from East Sussex and Kent, all from within a 40-mile radius of Rye.

Outstanding October events |
You heard it here first! Plans are already underway for Instrumentalist of the World competition, in Bexhill during October 2025.
In preparation, the October 2024 spectacular inaugural concert at the De La Warr Pavilion features the BBC Concert Orchestra and Classical Brit and Grammy nominated saxophonist, Amy Dickson, with more globally renowned artists soon to be announced.
