Dear Reader
2025 is a great year to plan a trip to Winchester as the city will be celebrating 250 years since the birth of the literary great, Jane Austen.
Winchester Cathedral has the enormous privilege of being the final resting place of Jane Austen (and you can still visit her memorial and grave today). To complement this, there will be a variety of events taking place throughout 2025 to delight any group.
Here’s some dates which may help inspire your trip:
-
11th to 15th March – The Storytellers. World premiere of a light and sound show by Luxmuralis.
-
31st May - The Regency Ball.
-
23rd May to 22nd September – A rare opportunity: a poem by Jane Austen displayed in the Kings & Scribes exhibition.
-
23rd May to 22nd September – Jane Austen – Her life and times tour.
-
6th June – To begin at the beginning: A talk by Professor Michael Wheeler.
-
19th September – The Tell-Tale Compression of the Pages: Jane Austen’s Endings. A talk by Dr Gillian Dow.
Will your group attend the Regency Ball (31st May)? Serenaded by The Warleggan Village Band (as seen on BBC TV’s Poldark), enjoying a dance performance by the Hampshire Regency Dancers before taking to the floor themselves.
